Discussion Questions

1. Today is the first week of our sermon series called, “Blessed: Everyday Thankfulness.” A thankful person is someone who actively decides to focus on the positive aspects of life regardless of their current life circumstances. So being thankful is more of a lifestyle choice than an emotion. Over time this deliberate choice can be developed into a habit that shifts your mindset from a negative one to one of appreciation. Do you practice this kind of “Everyday Thankfulness?” What is something you could do to grow in this area?

2. The Bible has many things to teach us about feeling thankful and blessed. Our scripture reading today is Luke 12:22-31. Take time to read it for yourself. What stands out to you as you read this passage?

3. Jesus took the time to teach His followers about the importance of living a thankful life. “Do not worry,” it’s one of those phrases that is much easier said than done. Are you a worrier? What are the types of things you worry about? What would it look like to take your worries and give them to Christ?

4. The key to this passage comes toward the end, “Your Father knows what you need. Seek first the Kingdom, and these things will be given to you.” It’s about priorities and perspective. Fix your eyes on what God has provided for you, His blessings and His faithfulness, and your earthly worries will soon fade. Step one to living a life of “Everyday Thankfulness” is to reduce your worry. How are you doing in this area? What would it take to make some big steps forward in the next month or so?
